In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth. Gently fold in diced strawberries and strawberry jam if using.

Place a wonton wrapper on a clean surface in a diamond shape. Spoon 1 to 1½ teaspoons of cheesecake filling into the center. Moisten all edges with water, then fold into a triangle, pressing edges to seal tightly and remove air pockets. Optionally, bring side corners together and pinch to form a purse shape.

Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).

Carefully drop a few wontons into hot oil. Fry for 2 to 3 minutes until golden brown and crispy, turning halfway through. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Dust wontons with powdered sugar while still warm. Serve optionally with strawberry sauce or chocolate for dipping.
