Spray a 6-quart slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray. Place chicken breasts in the bottom of the cooker. Sprinkle evenly with brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, and salt. Layer thinly sliced unsalted butter over the chicken.

Cook on low for 5-6 hours or on high for 3-4 hours without adding additional liquid. The chicken will produce its own juices and become very tender.

Using two forks or an electric hand mixer, shred the chicken in the slow cooker and mix it with the juices. Cover and keep warm while preparing the sauce.

In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine salted butter, brown sugar, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Whisk constantly until the mixture comes to a simmer, then remove from heat.

Serve shredded chicken on hamburger buns and drizzle generously with the hot sauce or use the sauce as a dip.
